Flat cuts lettering is a fantastic way to brand your business premises

Our flat cut letters signs make your business stand out. Combined with our easy-to-use locators that float the letters in front of your wall or backing board, they create a clean, professional 3D effect.

Flat cut letters are an effective and cost-efficient way to add impact to your signage and create an eye-catching display. Flat cut lettering is less expensive than fully built-up 3D lettering but still delivers a premium, professional appearance; ideal for shop fronts, receptions and offices.

What Are Flat Cut Letters?

A flat cut letter is a single-piece letter or shape cut from a flat sheet of material (acrylic, metal or foam). Unlike box letters, which are 3D built-up "trays" with sides and a front, flat cut letters have depth only from the material thickness itself, typically 3–20mm. They can be surface-mounted, floated on standoffs, or fixed to a backing tray for a clean modern shopfront finish.

Materials We Cut

Acrylic Flat Cut Letters

The most popular option. High-gloss finish, comes in any colour, up to 25mm thick. Great value for shop fronts, offices and interiors. Painted or laminated finishes available. Flat cut acrylic also works for indoor and outdoor use.

Stainless Steel Flat Cut Letters

Premium brushed or mirror-finish flat cut letters cut from 1.5–5mm stainless steel. Long-lasting, corrosion-resistant, and ideal for corporate reception areas.

Aluminium Composite Letters

Lightweight Dibond aluminium composite cut into letters — cost-effective for larger sizes and outdoor use.

Foam PVC and Foamex Letters

Very cost-effective, lightweight and ideal for indoor use. Available in white, black or custom colours.

MDF and Painted Wood Letters

Ideal for period buildings, boutique shops and rustic branding. Painted or stained to specification.

Foam Letters

Large-scale lightweight letters cut from foam, laminated in vinyl or painted. Perfect for exhibition and event use.

FAQs - Flat Cut Letters

How thick should flat cut letters be for a shop front?

5mm is the everyday standard for most shop fronts. For a premium look, step up to 10mm where the shadow depth is noticeably better, or 20mm for high-impact commercial signage.

Acrylic, aluminium composite and stainless steel flat cut letters are all fully weatherproof and suitable for outdoor use. Foamex letters are best suited for covered or indoor applications only.

Flat cut letters themselves are not illuminated, as they're solid-profile shapes. If you want lighting, we recommend our built-up 3D box letters with internal LEDs or halo-lit letters for a backlit glow effect.

Typically 5–10 working days from artwork sign-off, depending on the material and size chosen. Rush orders can sometimes be accommodated — just ask when you get in touch.
